My First Birthday
Jokes on you, I'm actually twenty-two years old, however, this post isn't necessarily just about me. It's about i am rorie and the journey it's taken me on the past year.
This month, i am rorie turns one! It's been an interesting adventure through this first year, but it's been more than what I had hoped for.
I started a blog because I wanted to work my way into a content developer career. As most people in my generation, I love the internet - but what exactly about it did I love? I love that it connects people across the world. That it expands our horizons, sometimes both virtually and physically.
After a few months, I finally discovered a focus: food! Cooking has always made me happy, whether it was for myself or other people. I wanted to share my passion and the creations that came out of it with the internet.
In my first year working on i am rorie, I learned not everything you create will be a hit or work the first time around. I switched website hosts, changed my template back and forth, and had to redesign and recode countless time to get my site operating in its current state.
I also learned it's easy to lose motivation when you don't have a grade riding on it. I graduated in May, and, at first, my creative juices were flowing with the excitement of excessive free time (so much room for activities!). There have been weeks or months where I really slacked on posting or general creativity, but it's normal. Being graduated has taught me self-motivation that nothing else in the world could have.
The self-motivation I've instilled has lead to connections I didn't know were so close in reach. Those connections have budded into working relationships and a network of local artists, writers, and more that I find myself collaborating with regularly.
People I barely knew started approaching me to tell me how much they loved my recent post or admired my blog in general. However, I don't blog for compliments - I blog because I love it. Blogging combines my passion for content development and food in one central outlet. I can't wait to continue producing for those who read and those who will be in the future.
I'm so excited for the direction i am rorie has taken and will continue to. I have lots of plans for 2018 and I know you'll be a part of them!
